Port Blair, Nov 9: A long pending demand of the people of Bambooflat and its adjoining area got fulfilled today with the opening of an Operation Theatre at CHC Bambooflat this morning. The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the much needed health facility by unveiling the plaque in the presence of the Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Shri Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Up- Adhyaksha, ZPSA, Smt. Bhageshwari, Principal Secretary (Health), Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi, State BJP President, Shri Vishal Jolly, Ex-Adhyaksha Zilla Parishad South Andaman, Ms Mariyam Bibi, Director Health Services, Dr. Shipra Paul, doctors and Staff of CHC Bambooflat and a good number of general public of the area.
Addressing the gathering, soon after inaugurating the Operation Theatre, the Lt. Governor congratulated the Administration and the Directorate of Health Services for their concerted efforts towards fulfilling this long pending demand of the residents of Bambooflat. The Lt. Governor said, proper health facilities should be taken to the door steps of people in the rural areas for the benefit of the masses and the health institutions must be equipped with all necessary facilities to meet the needs of the people.
Sharing his observation of the Islands and its people, the Lt. Governor said, he has high opinion about the residents of these Islands i.e. they are honest, hardworking and law abiding citizens besides their sense of cleanliness. He also appreciated the fact that people of all walks of life, residing in these Islands including the Administrative Officers, avail health facilities in Govt. Hospitals here.
The Lt. Governor stated that Health sector in A&N Islands will be given due importance and the Administration will strive to solve the problems and cater to the needs of the Islanders pertaining to health care. Accordingly, within a year, the process of referring of patients to mainland shall be done away with, he said. He further informed that cardiology facilities will be made available here in the Isles. Accordingly, first a Cardiology Department, followed by a Neurology Department will be set up at GB Pant Hospital for the convenience of the patients. Super Specialty services will also be made available in the Isles. The Lt. Governor also stated that the posts for Cardiologist and Cardio Surgeon will also be created to meet the needs of the Islanders and a Cath Lab, equipped with all required facilities will be set up soon.
Similarly, a Central University will also come up here in the Isles which has also been the long pending demand of the people, he said. The Lt. Governor reiterated that the Administration will strive to ensure availability of all required facilities in various sectors for the Islanders in the coming days.
The Lt. Governor also remarked that earlier, a tendency of depression was quite evident among Islanders due to the feel of isolation and unavailability of required facilities. But with passage of time, the scenario has changed due to globalization and advancement in technology. People are now well connected and they are also updated about various developments taking place across the globe and the feel of isolation and depression is vanishing, he said.
The Lt. Governor also informed about his visit to the Middle & North Andaman District tomorrow (Nov.10) and stated that details pertaining to health facilities have been obtained and priority will be given to health sector.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary, Health, Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi said, Administration is taking every step to improve health services in rural areas and opening up of this OT is one such step in this direction. He said, this OT will benefit the patients visiting PHCs of Wimberlygunj, Tushnabad and Ferrargunj. He urged the doctors and staff of the CHC Bambooflat to dedicate themselves in providing better health care to the visiting patients.
In his address, the Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Shri Jaydeep Kumar Dey said, the inauguration of the OT is the fulfillment of a long pending demand of the people of this area. Stating that the Bambooflat CHC caters to the health need of a big population from shoal Bay to Mathura, the Adhyaksh said, adding more facilities in this CHC will surely benefit people residing here. He expressed hope that ultrasound machine will also be installed at CHC Bambooflat soon as announced by the DHS.
Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the Director Health Services, Dr. Shipra Paul said that the Health Department is committed towards improving health services, especially in rural areas. She said, ultrasound facility will be made available in this hospital so that expecting mothers need not come to GB Pant Hospital for the same. She said, the newly inaugurated OT will cater to about 35,000 people in and around Bambooflat area.
Giving a brief description about the OT, Dr. M. M. Suleman, Gen. Surgeon said that the new facility has been put in place within a record time of 7 months. He said laparoscopic surgery can be done in this state of the art Operation Theatre which has a high- tech advanced OT table. Operation cases will be taken up weekly twice with the help of the anesthetist from GB Pant Hospital, he added.
