Port Blair, Nov 30: This is for the information of all the PDS beneficiaries of the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands that the Administration has revised the scheme for distribution of fortified wheat flour/atta in this UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands based on the consumption trend w.e.f 1st December, 2017. Taking into cognizance the revised policy framed by the Govt. of India, the wastage involved during handling/conversion of wheat into wheat flour and the FPS Dealers commission as incorporated under the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) as well as transportation cost upto the FPS, is included in the end retail price. Since, the NFSA beneficiaries are under-privileged, this Administration has decided to cross subsidize the expenditure involved during the above process on to the Above Poverty Line (APL) beneficiaries.
The Wheat flour/atta shall now be issued in packed form of 920g, 1860g & 4600g as against the earlier packages of 1kg, 2kg and 5kg denominations respectively, as per the rate & quantity specified under:-

Priority House Hold (PHH) 920 g (per unit) ` 3.60/-
Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) 3680 g (per card) ` 3.60/-
Taking into account the repeated request received from the Tribal Councils of Nicobar District to replace wheat flour with rice due to their eating habits, the entitled monthly quota of wheat flour and wheat grains is proposed to be replaced by equal quantity of rice under PDS in Car Nicobar and Nancowry group of Islands.
It is appealed to all the ration cardholders that in case of any complaints in this regard, such as non-receipt of PDS fortified wheat flour/atta, sub-standard quality and excess charging of rate etc, the same may be brought to notice of the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Port Blair in writing.
