Port Blair, Jan 13: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has greeted the Islanders on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Baisakhi, Lohri, Onam, Bihu and all other harvest festivals which are celebrated in the month of January. He has wished that these festivals bring happiness and prosperity in the lives of the Islanders who are now recovering from the economic devastation as created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that the Govt. of India is starting its vaccination drive throughout the nation on 16th of January 2021 and in Andaman and Nicobar Islands also the vaccination drive is scheduled to start on the same date. Further the vaccines will be made available for every Citizen of the country free of cost. In the first phase the health care workers will be vaccinated and very soon every citizen will receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi also highlighted the importance of following all COVID-19 protocols even after the vaccination for the safety of the society. He added that the two golden rules of wearing of face cover in public and maintaining of social distancing is very necessary for the protection of oneself and the families.
He further added that this year to due to the pandemic there may be several restrictions in the way we celebrate our festivals but as the vaccination drive proceeds we will come out as winners from the COVID-19 pandemic and we will move towards normalisation in all aspects of our life.
He requested the Islanders to cooperate with the Govt. and follow all guidelines as issued from time to time.
