Andaman Moplah Meet 2019: AMSO Felicitates Community Members

Port Blair, Nov 25:  Andaman Moplah Service Organization (AMSO), the community organization of Moplahs deported to the Islands by the British from Malabar after 1921, organized Andaman Moplah Meet 2019 on 22nd Nov 2019 at Khaithan Function Hall, Port Blair, in which major issues of the community were discussed. Eight members of the community were also felicitated for their meritorious services in various fields.

Speaking on the occasion Shri O Abdul Rehman, Past General Secretary of the organization dealt in depth on the need for the community to have its own building completed, which is under construction. He appealed the community to extend all assistance in its completion.


Shri K M Hanif, Past President motivated the young team to carry on the good activities with further zeal.

Addressing the gathering, Zubair Ahmed, independent journalist expressed concerns on various issues stalking the Islands. He dealt on the recent land notifications, which was imposed on the Islanders without any consultation process. He also spoke on how the people are affected by developmental projects proposed by the government, especially the land of the old inhabitants. He sought the community to extend all possible support to everyone irrespective of community affiliations in the resistance against such unjustified moves, and struggle for justice.

Eight members from the community were also felicitated during the function. K P Mammu, C P Yousuf, Abdul Rahman, Mohammed Arif, Zubair Ahmed, Mohammed Younus, V Abdul Razak and O Rahman were commended for meritorious service in their respective fields.

Shri Abdul Siddique, General Secretary, AMSO welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the meet and prompted the community members to extend support in overcoming the hurdles. Shri N Yusuf, President proposing vote of thanks expressed satisfaction on the large gathering. He also remembered the sacrifices of senior members of the community.

The gathering participated in the discussions and came forth with various ideas and suggestions for the welfare of the community in particular and the society in general. The programme started with recitation of Holy Quran by Shri A Ummer. Shri M K Abdul Gafoor compered the programme.
