Attukal Pongala of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple

Port Blair, Feb 27: ‘Pongala’ is the most important festival of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. The offering of Pongala is a very special temple practice in the southern part of Kerala. The ten-day- long celebration commences in the Malayalam month of Makaram-Kumbham (Feb – March) on the Karthika star i.e. 2nd March 2018. Pongala ceremony is on the auspicious day of Pooram star which coincides with full moon.
Attukal Pongala is organising in these islands since 2012 and this is the 9th year celebration. Attukal Bhagawathy temple is also known for the Sabarimala for Ladies. During the celebration of Attukal Pongala Mahotsavam, the Pongala is on 2nd March 2018.
In Port Blair, on 2nd March 2018 the pooja will start at 9.30 am in the Durga Puja Pandal, Junglighat. During the pooja, female devotees will cook pongal / prasadam for offering to the Goddess Attukal Bhagawathy. The Bhajana team of Shiv Temple, Burmanallah came forward to present bhajans during the pooja.
The entire pooja will be held under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Ajayan Shanthi, poojari of MES Ayyappa Temple, Haddo. After pooja, Annadanam will be served to all devotees.
