BRAIT students to participate in SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2018 Grand Finale

Port Blair, Mar 29: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and in collaboration with i4c, MyGov, Persistent Systems, and Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhiniis is organizing Smart India Hackathon 2018. Launched on Oct 16, 2017 in Pune, Smart India Hackathon 2018 harnesses creativity & expertise of students, builds funnel for ‘Startup India, Standup India’ campaign, crowd sources, solutions for improving governance and quality of life, and provides opportunity to citizens to provide innovative solutions to India’s daunting problems. The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar is a ‘Premier Partner’ in this initiative among 27 union ministries and departments and 17 state governments who have joined this grand initiative.
The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar is represented by a team of 6 students of BRAIT (05 from CSE department, 03 B.Tech and 02 diploma and 01 from Diploma Electrical Engg.). The much awaited Smart India Hackathon 2018 – Software edition Grand Finale is scheduled to be held on Mar 30 & 31, 2018 at 28 different nodal centers across India. The team from A & N Islands shall be attending the Grand Finale at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore. Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will be addressing the participants on inaugural day.
Out of more than 100 ideas, the problem statement proposed by UT of Andaman and Nicobar on developing a digital solution for Management of Resources and shelters during Natural Disaster (Earthquake/Floods/Tsunami/ Cyclone etc) was shortlisted for the Grand Finale. The team of students has been working on the problem statement for last 3 months. The team will be undergoing 36 hour of solution development at Coimbatore and compete with 57 other teams under the theme Environment at the National Level. In all 1252 teams are participating and more than 10250 young students will be participating in the Grand Finale.
Such participation at national platform will give a great exposure to the students of these islands who are otherwise deprived due to geographical isolation.
