Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity 2018

Port Blair, May 22: India along with the rest of world is celebrating 25th Anniversary year of Convention on Biological Diversity on 22nd May 2018. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was adopted and Opened for signature on 5th June 1992. On December 29th 1993, the Convention came into force. The Objective of celebration of convention is to communicate the importance of biodiversity and strengthened efforts to achieve the goal.
The CPR Environmental Education Centre, Port Blair in collaboration with Forest Training Institute, Department of Environment and Forest, Andaman and Nicobar Administration is celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity 2018 at Forest Training institute, Wimberly Gunj. The theme of this year celebration is_25 years of action for Biodiversity_. The programme was organized with the participation of School students. About 70 students and teachers of nearby school were participated in the program.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr.K.Murali SankarIFS, Divisional Forest Officer. South Andaman. In his inaugural address, he appealed the students to guard the rich biodiversity of these Islands. He also gave a nutshell View on International Biodiversity Day and it Importance with respect to sustenance of human being in this world. Earlier, Mr. A. Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair, has welcomed the chief Guest and participants of the programme and delivered a lecture on the objectives for celebrating the International Day of Biological Diversity. A tree planting
ceremony was also organised to mark the celebration. Mr. Sukumar Das, Instructor, Forest Training Institute, Wimberlygunj has delivered a lecture on Biodiversity and its conservation. A Quiz competition was organised on biological diversity. The programmee ended With the vote of thanks Proposed by Mr.Sukumar Das, Instructor, Forest training institute.
