Central Crime Station Raids Caddlegunj Jungle, Seize 71 Liters Spirituous Illicit Liquor “Junglee”

Port Blair, Sept 05: Central Crime Station police in its continuous efforts to crackdown on bootlegging, illegal and spurious liquor, strikes hard against bootleggers and conducted a Jungle search operation at Caddlegunj, Ograbraj area.

After persistent efforts and developing specific information, the staff of PS Central Crime Station comprising ASI Surya Prakash Rao, Constable K. Rajendran, S. Baroi, LHG Seema Kujur under the command of Inspr. Mahesh Yadav, SHO, PS CCS, carried out jungle search operation against bootleggers in Ram Nagar jungle.After searching for an hour, they found that a person is making some beverage with bhatti and other equipments. The team encircled him from all sides and overpowered him when he tried to flee from the spot. He identified himself as Isrieal Tirkey, and admitted that he was making alcoholic beverage, locally known as “Junglee”. The raiding team seized 04 cans and 11 bottles containing 31 liters of spurious illicit liquor “Junglee” from the spot. Bhatti and other articles were also seized and 04 tins containing around 40 liters of Fermented wash ‘Lahan’ were destroyed on the spot. Such alcoholic beverage made under unlicensed condition is illegal and can be highly toxic. The accused was booked under relevant section of A & N Islands Excise Regulation.

The jungle search operation was conducted under the supervision of Shri Abhishek Gupta, Dy. SP(CID) & over all supervision of Shri Ravi Kumar Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID), A&N Islands. In addition to this on the same day the Central Crime Station team after getting information over phone from general public, raided at Brichgunj, Pahargaon area, Aberdeen area and arrested 06 bootleggers for illegally selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

The Andaman & Nicobar Police is taking all possible steps in making these islands free from anti-social activities and keeping strict vigil over bootleggers, gamblers, smuggling and proliferation of narcotics substances in these Islands. General Public is requested to pass on credible information on narcotics substances, illegal sale of liquor, gambling or any illegal activity on the telephone numbers: 233307, 232586, 100, 9474233832 (SHO) & 8900910419 (Dy.SP CID). The identity of informer will be kept secret.
