Port Blair, Mar 09: The Enforcement Wing of the Civil Supply Unit, Diglipur under the supervision of Mr. B K Das, Circle Officer (CS&CA) along with Mr. Linu Nair, Civil Supplies Inspector conducted surprise inspection in & around Diglipur on 15.02.2018.
On inspection, it was noticed that 22 Autorickshaws were plying with unstamped Auto Fare Meters, which is an offence committed under the Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011 framed under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. All the offenders have been booked under appropriate provisions of the above said Act/Rules.
So far, 17 offenders have appeared before the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology to get their offences compounded and an amount of Rs. 34000/- has been realized from them as compounding fee. The remaining 5 cases of suspected offenders are in process & appropriate action will be initiate at the earliest.
Further, all the Autorickshaw owners/drivers, traders and vendors of this UT are advised to refrain from any unfair trade practices attracting violation of the Legal Metrology Act/Rules or law will take its own course.
It is appealed to all the consumers that in case of any complaints regarding violation in this regard, such as using unstamped weighing & measuring instruments, less weighment, overcharging beyond MRP printed on packages etc. to be brought to notice in writing to the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs, Port Blair.
