Port Blair, Mar 08: Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff and Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, arrived at Port Blair on 08th Mar for MILAN 2018, the biennial international event, being hosted by the Navy at Andaman and Nicobar Command. On arrival, the Chief of the Naval Staff called on Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VSM, NM (Retd), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Andaman & Nicobar.
In the evening, he interacted with the media during a press conference onboard Indian Naval Ship Kesari, an indigenously built Landing Ship Tank (Large). The press conference was attended by a host of journalists from both print and electronic media houses.
The Admiral welcomed the media and complimented them for the wide coverage provided for the activities in the maritime domain and specially during MILAN.
In his address, the Chief of Naval Staff outlined the importance and significance multi-lateral naval exercise like the MILAN. He briefed the media about the maiden operational exercise at sea, called MILES that is being undertaken for the first time during MILAN.
The various operational exercise being done during MILES are Search and Rescue and Maritime Interdiction apart from a Table Top Exercise. The Milan exercise at sea (MILES) will be held from 11th to 13th Mar 18 in which eleven foreign ships will participate.
