Coast Guard extends timely assistance to Civil Administration at Diglipur

Port Blair, June 14: On 13th Jun, during late evening, Indian Coast Guard Ship at Diglipur, ferried 77 stranded passengers including women & children from Aerial Bay to Smith Island and Gandhinagar. Locals were stuck at Aerial Bay jetty due to non availability of local boats and passenger ship Durga Prasad, which were unable to operate view high & gusty winds and rough sea conditions.
At 1630, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur requested Coast Guard for extending assistance to ferry locals to their dwellings at Gandhinagar & Smith Island view only passenger ship (Durga Prasad) was unable to operate in cyclonic winds and rough sea condition. Immediately, Coast Guard Authority at Diglipur directed ICGS-145 to undertake humanitarian assistance and services of Coast Guard ship was provided to undertake operation on priority. The ship sailed in the evening with 77 personnel embarked, who were also provided with life jackets for their personal safety. After sailing out from Aerial Bay and braving strong weather and pitch dark conditions, the ship disembarked 58 and 19 personnel to Smith and Gandhinagar jetties respectively.
