Coast Guard Organises awareness lecture on “Reduce Use of Plastic and Management of Plastic Waste”

Port Blair, June 07: An awareness lecture by Mr P Naveen Kumar, IFS, DCF, was conducted for CG personnel on 06 Jun 18 as part of World Environment Day campaign. The lecture was attended by officers, personnel and civilians of Coast Guard Region (A&N). Mr. P Naveen in his illustrious lecture projected the ill-effects of increased plastic waste and its adverse effects on bio-diversity of Andaman Islands. During lecture, various means of managing dry and wet waste were presented and depicted in detail for better understanding and appreciation.
Inspector General Maneesh Vishal Pathak, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), Chief Guest on the occasion, also emphasised upon continuation of Coast Guard Region(A&N) efforts towards clean India project to gift better environment to the future generations.
Recently, under the aegis of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Organisation, a Segregated Waste Collection Centre (SWCC) has been made institutionalised in collaboration with Defence Wives Welfare Association wherein the waste collected from the Coast Guard residential areas, Coast Guard ships and other premises is segregated and disposed at accordingly. The SWCC also houses a composter in which the organic waste is converted into compost.
