Coast Guard Rescues Four Fishermen



Port Blair, July 09: On 08 July 2018, Indian Coast Guard Ship C-146 rescued four fishermen from a fishing boat namely ‘Jungli Tickre’, East off Henry Lawrence Island, about 33 nm from Port Blair.The boat was adrift due to defect on her shaft. Coast Guard Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Port Blair received information about adrift fishing boat with crew from Fisheries Department, Port Blair. Immediately, ICGS C-423 and ICGS C-146 which were undertaking surveillance in area, were diverted to search and render assistance to the fishing boat. In the morning hours of 08 July 2018, Indian Coast Guard Ship C-146 braving rough sea conditions located the boat in approx position 05n miles East of Henry Lawrence Island. The fishermen were provided first aid relief and were towed to Havelock as defect rectification was not possible at sea. The boat along with the four crew members was safely handed over to the Marine Police in the afternoon. The Indian Coast Guard is committed to provide assistance to fishermen and mariners in distress. As on date, the Coast Guard Region (A&N) has saved 3124 lives in various missions coordinated by the MRCC(Port Blair) in tune with, the Coast Guard motto “Vyam Rakshamah”.
