Community Interaction Programme by Coast Guard at Dugnabad, Port Blair

Port Blair, June 12: Indian Coast Guard Ship C-428 conducted Community Interaction Programme at Dugnabad, Port Blair on 11 Jun 18 with an aim to create awareness amongst the fishers’ community in respect to safety at sea and communication equipment required. Fishermen were briefed on the operation of Distress Alert Transmitter and were advised to carry fishing in pairs (buddy system) & to have at least one DAT in the group. They were demonstrated on the donning procedure of life jackets & life buoy and were advised to always carry them for their own life’s safety . A brief lecture on the prohibited marine species was also covered during the interaction.
Fishermen were also appraised about importance of having biometric ID cards whilst fishing out at sea due to prevailing security scenario for identification by the security agencies. They were advised to be alert at sea & act as ‘Eyes and Ears’ of security agencies and pass the information to security agencies on sighting of any suspicious personnel/boat/vessel at sea.
