CS inaugurates Utsav 2018- A festival of play, dance & music, art & craft

Port Blair, Feb 4: The two day Utsav 2018- A Festival of Play, Dance & Music, Art & Craft organized by Kala Kendra Society under the Department of Art & Culture in collaboration with the Departments of Tourism, Education and Industries got underway with its inauguration by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Anindo Majumdar at Girls School auditorium here yesterday evening. The Adhyaksha, ZPSA, Mrs Baby Fareeda, Senior officers of the Administration, Padma Shree awardee Mr Naresh Chandra Lal and a good number of general public were present on the occasion.
A presentation of a play by ‘Khela Natya Sansthan’- a renowned theatre group from Chandigarh besides performances by local cultural groups, students and handicraft exhibition by the Department of Industries were the main attraction of the Utsav. The play titled ‘Koi dukh na ho toh bakri kharid lo’ based on the story of renowned literature, Munshi Premchand, directed by Namrata Sharma and choreographed by Aparna Sharma drew huge applause from the gathering while squeals of laughter filled the hall.
To add more fervor to the weekend, a flea market is also being organized in the premises of Girls School. The two-day flea market is being organized by the Department of Tourism with a view to promote Isles tourism besides it also provides platforms to SHGs/entrepreneurs and Islanders to sell their wares and expose their talents to the visitors.
