Defence Wives Welfare Association Conducts Workshop On Waste Management At Chidyatapu

Port Blair, Mar 20: On 18th march 2018, a workshop on Segregation of waste was conducted by Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA), Port Blair. Whole hearted participation of village community and children was witnessed and the team explained the importance of segregating waste and forming a compost pit in their surroundings. A movie was also shown to them and a demonstration was given on making of compost in their backyard. DWWA also donated 10 dustbins to the villages at Chidyatapu consisting of the communities at Tsunami village, shops at sunset point forest guest house.
The Defence Wives Welfare Association has also received a Rashtriya Swachhta Hi Sewa Award for their innovative way of waste management system recently on 02 Oct 17 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. DWWA has been running Segregated Waste Collection Centers at different locations in port Blair. These centers collect segregated waste from more than 10,000 residents and recycle it. The waste being given to PBMC has also come down to half a truck from around 12 trucks which earlier went to the landfill. DWWA truly goes by its motto of “Humara Kachra, Humara Samadhan” meaning “Our garbage, Our Solution”.
