Depression forms over Southeast Bay of Bengal causes heavy rainfall in Andaman


Port Blair, Dec 06 : According to Indian Meteorological Department the well marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood has already concentrated into a Depression and presently it lays close to Andaman and about 1160 km to the southeast of Machillipatnam and 1250 km south-southeast of Gopalpur.

Further a release from IMD said that the system is very likely to move northwestwards and reach Andhra Pradesh coast around 8th December evening.

“The system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 48 hours. However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near Andhra Pradesh coast,” IMD release says.

Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands witnessed heavy rainfall in different scattered Islands causing water logging in various areas and disrupting normal life.

As per official report some part of Marine Drive road near Aberdeen also suffered heavy damages due to mighty waves.

Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Administration has once again sounded alert for heavy rainfall.

“Rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Nicobar Islands and rainfall at many places over Andaman Islands during next 2 days. Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over and around Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter,” a weather warning issued by local Administration said here today.
