Port Blair, Oct 17: A meeting-cum-sensitization programme was held on 17/10/17 at 10.30 AM in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Disaster Management with the Member, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, A & N Administration, Port Blair, Secretaries and Incharge of Child Care Institutions of A&N Islands under the chairmanship of Mr. Govind Ram, Director, Disaster Management regarding disaster awareness, preparedness and preparation of Standard Operating Procedure of all Child Care Institutions of this UT to mitigate any eventualities to be occurred in the future.
Mr. Govind Ram, Director (DM) welcomed the gathering and outlined the disaster management system of A&N Islands, various risks, hazards, vulnerability etc. He emphasized on capacity building of each and every islander to reduce the impact of any disaster. Further he urged the officials of all the participating Child Care Institute to prepare their DM Plan and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). On this occasion Smt. Rubina Siddiqui, Member, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, A & N Administration, Port Blair requested all participants and DM Officers to work in close coordination to mitigate disasters, if any occurs. Mr. Gyan Singh, AD (Logistics) briefed about the disaster preparedness and management of A&N Islands. Mr. Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer highlighted the disaster communication and warning system of the UT and State Emergency Operation Center function during emergency situation.
A keen interest was evinced by the participants on preparedness and mitigation of Natural and Manmade disasters.
