One of the participants put on her thoughts and emotions on the occasion through her words “As part of Ek Bharat Shrestra Bharat, I personally didn’t visit Lakshadweep but by participating in these activities we get an opportunity to know about the Lakshadweep Island. Lakshadweep, a group of 36 islands is known for its exotic, sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape.

The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means a hundred thousand islands. India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq. km. It is a uni-district Union Territory and is comprised of 12 atolls, 3 reefs, 5 submerged banks and 10 inhabited islands. The capital is Kavaratti and it is also the principal town of the Union Territory. All islands are 220 to 440 km away from the coastal city of Kochi in Kerala.

The natural landscapes, the sandy beaches, abundance of flora and fauna and the absence of a rushed lifestyle enhance the mystique of Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep and A&N islands, both are somewhat similar. Both the islands have something common in the culture and tradition related to the Mopla community. Both A&N and Lakshadweep are considered as Union Territory of India and both are isles of India. A&N and Lakshadweep are both well known travel destinations in India and gradually becoming the part of global tourism industry. Water Sports lover can enjoy scuba diving and other water sports activities in both the islands.

When we talk about island, a beautiful picture comes into our mind, surrounded by sea and green, serenity, zero pollution, clean which attracts people towards it and that is what the most important connection between the islands of Andaman & Lakshadweep. At last I would conclude by saying, Sardar Patel gave us Ek Bharat and it is now the solemn duty of 125 crore Indians to collectively make Shreshthra Bharat. Jai Hind!” by Raziya Parveen, XI class on the occasion of the day.
