In a Midnight operation Injured Philipino Mariner evacuated by Indian Coast Guard


Port Blair, Jan 05: At 2220 hrs on 04 Jan 18 , Indian Coast Guard Ship Aruna Asaf Ali evacuated 40 years old Philipino National namely Mr. Ciriaco Nic Acebuque, welder onboard netherland flag Merchant Vessel ‘Zealand Almere’ which was on passage to Iran. The crew had sustained a deep cut on his left forearm while he was cutting steel plate by grinder machine.
Captain of the Merchant Vessel Zealand Almere destined for Iran requested Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Center Port Blair for urgent medical evacuation of the injured crew. Considering criticality of the situation, Coast Guard medical officer provided tele-medical advice to the crew, simultaneously Indian Coast Guard Ship Aruna Asaf Ali was deployed from Campbell Bay for urgent medical evacuation.
The merchant vessel was at 75 NM away from Campbell Bay at the time of emergency reporting. Considering the long voyage time of the vessel, it was decided to evacuate crew mid sea during dark hours in rough weather. Indian Coast Guard Ship Aruna Aaf Ali successfully evacuated the crew.
The medical team onboard administered the patient with basic first aid and stabilized the crew enroute to Campbell Bay. On arrival at PHC, Campbell Bay, doctor lacerated wound with suture on his left forearm. Thereafter the patient was evacuated to Port Blair for further specialized medical treatment at GB Pant Government Hospital.
