Indian Coast Guard Conducts Seminar on Regional Level Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise


Port Blair, Mar 19: As prelude to Regional level Maritime Search and Rescue exercise, Indian Coast Guard Region (A&N) conducted a seminar followed by Table top exercise on 19 Mar 18 at the conference hall of Coast Guard Regional Headquarters. Representatives from various stake holders and Officers from Coast Guard Units attended the seminar followed by table top exercise. The seminar commenced with inaugural speech by Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) Inspector General KR Suresh, Tatrakshak Medal. The Flag Officer emphasized on the key role played by Indian Coast Guard since inception in co-coordinating numerous maritime search and rescue operations in Indian Search and Rescue Region(ISRR), where-in the service has saved more than 8500 lives till date. He further re-iterated on requirement of synergy between various stake holders in Andaman & Nicobar Isles to get prepared in all respect to tackle any major calamity requiring mass rescue operations. The Coast Guard Commander accentuated that such exercise will provide opportunity to review preparedness level and validate Standard Operating Procedures for real contingencies.
Presentations on various aspects of SAR were delivered during the seminar to the gathering followed by table top exercise where teams were formulated and situations were injected for planning and execution on paper. Situations were kept close to practical, to give exposure of near real type scenario to participants so as to attain maximum training value.
