Injectable Contraceptive launched in Isles


Port Blair, Jun29: Union Territory Health Mission launched an Injectable Contraceptive in Andaman and Nicobar Islands during a function at GB Pant Hospital Auditorium, today. The introduction of the new Injectable Contraceptives into family planning services will provide beneficiaries with wider choices to meet their reproductive health goals. Smt. Baby Fareeda, AdhyakshaZillaParishad, South Andaman was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Smt. Baby Fareeda, in her address, called upon the Health Workers particularly ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and ANMs to spread awareness, about the use of new contraceptive, in the villages and remote areas of the isles.
In his address, Dr. Sunil Kumar, incharge Director of Health Services, A&N Administration explained that the new contraceptive is safe for lactating mothers also. “It will give you a tension free and trouble free life”, he said.
Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Deputy Director (Family Welfare) informed the gathering about the benefits of the contraceptive. He said “Injectable Contraceptive is an effective measure to keep gap between two pregnancies. Once administered, this contraceptive will be effective for 3 months”. “Initially, the contraceptive will be available at GB Panth Hospital and District Hospitals in the isles and gradually it will be introduced at Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres across the Isles,” he added.
Dr.Pinky S K Sahoo,Assistant Professor, Department of Gynaecology, ANIIMS updated the gathering about the technical aspects of the new contraceptive. Mrs.Kalpana, a resident of Dairy Farm, Port Blair was administered with the Injectable Contraceptive during the function. A Contraceptive Schedule card was also handed over to her by Smt. Baby Fareeda.
Beneficiaries of the Injectable Contraceptive, pregnant women, lactating mothers, Doctors, Nurses, Staff and patients of GB Pant Hospital, were present among the audience.(PIB)
