Interactive Birding Session to Mark World Wildlife Day

Port Blair, March 04: World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on March 3 worldwide to mark the opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that conservation provides to people.
At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.
Andaman Avians club yesterday conducted an interactive cum birding session for the newly joined members of the club to celebrate the world wildlife week 2018.
During this session the Joint Secretary for the club Mr.G.Shaktivel took the members to Gandhi park and briefed them about the bird identification, birding techniques, birding ethics and the habitat understanding around the islands.
After the birding session the members we taken for birding in and around the premises of Gandhi park. During the session the members did a spotting of around 14 species inside the park area. Overall the event was focused on introducing the new members of the club to the avifauna of the island and inculcate the concern towards the precious and fragile biological diversity of the islands.
