Port Blair, Nov 6: It was a momentous occasion for the JNRM family as the college celebrated its Golden Jubilee here this evening amidst large gathering. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Anindo Majumdar was the chief guest on the occasion while the Secretary (Education), Smti Tanvi Garg was the guest of honour. The programme was also attended among others by senior citizens, alumni of the college, senior officers of the Administration, faculty members and students.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary congratulated the JNRM fraternity on its Golden Jubilee celebration. He said, JNRM has played a very significant role in moulding the lives of the students who have scaled heights in different walks of life. He stated that JNRM situated in a picturesque location was the only degree college in the late 90s and has contributed towards the development of various other colleges in Isles. “Over the years, the college has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of infrastructure, academic excellence and its par excellence faculty members have shaped the lives of many students”, the Chief Secretary remarked. The Chief Secretary also mentioned about the need for further infrastructural development in the college besides renovation of boys hostel and construction of new girls hostel which will be taken up in the days to come. He lauded the college for being an institution of academic excellence and being accredited by NAAC with A Grade.
Bestowing his best wishes to the college, the Chief Secretary remarked that JNRM needs to grow beyond these Islands and become a centre of excellence not only in the country but at the international arena too. He also stressed on the need for international student exchange programmes which will further boost the cultural unity among the students and the Islanders.
The Chief Secretary also launched the golden jubilee anthem of JNRM which was sung and composed by Mr. Avinash and Ms. Priyadarshini. The lyrics were written by Ms. Sansarwati , Asst. Professor (Hindi), JNRM.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Education, Smti Tanvi Garg complimented the JNRM family for the wonderful show put up by the college on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration. She said, JNRM has grown and achieved many milestones over the years and expressed hope that in the years to come, the college would be able to achieve many more. She also suggested that a museum be set up within the college campus highlighting the contributions of various persons and its notable achievements which will become a rich source of information for the generations to come. She remarked that JNRM has the capacity to develop itself into one of the finest institution not only in the country but in the sub continent as well.
It was a nostalgic moment for the gathering as the members of the first Batch of JNRM (1967) shared their experiences on the occasion besides sharing of memories by other alumni. The first batch alumini, ex- faculties of JNRM and the Retd. employees were also felicitated on the occasion.
Stupendous cultural programmes by the students and presentation on the journey of JNRM from 1967 to 2017 received huge applause from the gathering.
Earlier, the Principal JNRM, Dr. Francis Xavier welcomed the gathering while the programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Vyasmnani Tripathi.
