Lt. Governor inaugurates Port Terminal at Hut Bay: Andaman has proposal for higher passenger capacity helicopter for services in the inter-island sector: LG

Port Blair, Feb 27: The Port Terminal at Hut Bay was inaugurated by Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at a function held at Hut Bay today at 4 p.m.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt. Governor appreciated the facilities at the new Port Terminal. He said that the new terminal will facilitate smooth and comfortable movements of passengers. He further appreciated that the new Port Terminal has got the facility to handle sea-plane passengers also.

Lt. Governor said that there is great potential for the tourism development in Little Andaman.

Referring to the attractive beaches in Little Andaman, Lt. Governor said that Little Andaman can be another tourism destination in addition to the existing Havelock and Neil Islands. He said that there is a proposal to introduce higher passenger capacity helicopter for services in the inter-island sector which will also definitely improve the tourism activities at places like Little Andaman.

Lt. Governor went round the newly built Port Terminal which comprises a passenger hall, Port Control Tower and office space for port operational staff. The Port Terminal was built by Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works at a cost of Rs. 6 crores with the fund provided by the A & N Administration. The Lt. Governor lauded the efforts made by ALHW.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the MP appreciated the efforts being made by the Lt. Governor for the all-round development of these islands. He said that a number of decisions taken by the Lt. Governor in the recent months like the enhancement of minimum wages for scheduled employment, implementation of 1/30th of pay plus DA benefits to daily rated mazdoors working in various departments/offices under the Administration, etc have benefitted thousands of people in the islands.

He said that the new Port Terminal will be beneficial for the residents of Little Andaman. Mr. Ray emphasised the need to have a Mini Airport at Hut Bay. Dr R.D. Tripathi, Chief Port Administrator, Port Management Board while welcoming the Chief Guest, Guests and others present on the occasion explained in brief the facilities available in the newly built Port Terminal building.

Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District, Smt Urvija Goel, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District and Miss Shipra Bonike, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman were among the dignitaries present on the occasion. Smt T.K. Sathi, Deputy Chief Engineer, ALHW proposed vote of thanks.
