Port Blair, Apr 06: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray along with the delegate of Tribal Council Car Nicobar met with Mr. Nitin Gdkari, the Union Minister of Shipping on 22.03.2018 and discussed on various shipping related issues especially for extension of berthing space of existing Mus Jetty in Car Nicobar for safe berthing of mainland bound passenger and cargo ships plying between Port Blair and Chennai via Car Nicobar and presented a letter dated 22.03.2018 highlighting the necessity for berthing of Mainland bound ships at Car Nicobar for the benefit of businessman and also for the tribal population of the entire Nicobar District.”
“Later on the same day, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray,M.P. along with the delegate of Tribal Council, Car Nicobar met with Mr. Jayant Sinha, the Minister of Civil Aviation and presented a letter dated 22.03.2018 with submission of that Air India passenger plane services between Port Blair and Car Nicobar once in a week was initiated in the year of 2016 to augment the Inter Islands connectivity. This service was hugely appreciated by the Islanders including Tribal Populations of Nicobar District. Unfortunately, the service has been discontinued all of a sudden.
Considering the demand of Islanders, the M.P Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray and the delegate of Tribal Council, Car Nicobar urge the Minister to intervene in the matter and to take all possible efforts for resuming the services of air connectivity between Port Blair and Car Nicobar as was available in the past since 2016 in the large interest of Islanders including tribal populations.”
