Port Blair, Nov 05: Mr.Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament had visited the Campbell Bay Island from 31st October, to 2nd November, 2017. On his arrival, he hold meeting with the local heads of officials, PRI members, general public at APWD guest house in the presence of Asst. Commissioner, Campbell bay on 31.10.2017. The grievances and various difficulties expressed by the islanders, PRI members, Ex-servicemen, general public of Great Nicobar have been taken into note and assured them that their grievances will be taken up with the Lt. Governor/A&N Administration immediately. Some of the issues raised before him are replacement of MV Coral Queen which is not safe/fit for long distance journey like Port Blair to Campbell bay, proper health facilities, creation of Ayush hospital, improvement of education, shortage of teachers, submerge land issue, BSNL network connectivity, improper bus services by STS, extension of jetty, digitations of land records, Ex-servicemen pension problems, bank facilities, MGNERAGA work, setting up of mini circular saw mill, embarkation of ship at Campbell bay sailing from Port Blair to Chennai, left out cases for Tsunami compensations, etc. He also visited the Tribal Colony at Rajiv Nagar, Campbell bay in the evening and interacted with the Nicobari tribals and their Council Chairman Mr.Barnabus and heard their grievances.
On 01.11.2017, the Member of Parliament visited the Fishermen colony where the lands of fishermen was submerged and interacted with the fishermen community. He also visited Govt. Sr. Secondary school, Campbell bay and interacted with the students and teachers where he noted the deficiencies in the school. He also met with Commanding Officer, INS Baaz at Campbell bay and discussed about the present status of extension of Airport and resettlement/rehabilitation of affected persons including Ranchi family residing in the Gudda Bijan basthi, Campbell bay. He also visited Laxminagar Gram Panchayat and surrounding areas and interacted with the settlers/ex-servicemen and heard their problems. Besides, that, the MP also interacted with the traders, businessmen, contractors and discussed about the impact of GST and difficulties being faced by the traders. On 02.11.2017, the Member of Parliament visited various locations including Gurudwara in Zero Point, HQ Campbell Bay area. After hearing the difficulties put forth before him, the Member of Parliament assured that all the matters relating to over all development of Campbell Bay will be taken up with the administration for necessary action.
