Neighbourhood Youth Parliament at Campbell Bay

Port Blair, Aug 18: Block Level Neighborhood Youth parliament was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Campbell Bay on 17 Aug. 2019 at Community Hall, Gram Panchayat, Campbell Bay. In this programme about 120 youths participated. The programme was to create an institutional platform right up to the village level, where the youth can articulate their views on various issues and draw the attention of the local administration to such issues/ concerns affecting their lives. In this connection an interaction session will be held with youths regarding discussion on various issues faced by the youth for their developments. The programme organized in associate with Gram Panchayat, Campbell bay, GSSS, Campbell Bay and Andaman Shikha.

On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Mukesh Kumar (DANICS) was the chief guest and presided over the Youth Parliament. On this occasion, he tried to address various social issues raised by the youth and assured that he too would work to ease the lives of the youths and residents of this remote place at the earliest.

While, on the occasion, Mr. Jagdev Singh Yadav,(DANIPS) Dy. SP, Campbell Bay, Mr. E.S Rajesh, Pradhan , Gram Panchayat,  Nagar, Mr. K. Raja. Pradhan, Gram panchayat, Campbell Bay, Smti Rosalia Kullu, Pradhan , Gram Panchayat Govind Nagar, Mr. APN jayaraman, panchayat Samity member, Mr. Lokesh Kumar, Principal GSSS Campbell Bay Mr. Raja karmaker, PGT, GSSS Campbell Bay were also present and express their views on the various issue on  health, family welfare, Social issues, environment conservation, women empowerment, rural development, economic development, unemployment, scope of sustainable tourism and   volunteerism.

Later, there was a healthy discussion was held with the youth on serious issues related to Campbell Bay, with the youth raising their voices on one issue – that in the field of education students are currently facing teacher shortage, especially student of Science stream of classes XI and XII. Issues of repairing the class room cleanliness toilet of school also raised. The youth insisted to open English medium classrooms too for interested student.  This area being a hard area, is a sparsely populated area. Therefore, adequate numbers of children are not available to open English medium classes here. But, under Right to education, it is also mandatory to teach children in English medium. Otherwise, the children here will not be able to participate in any competition on the government job or private job.

Apart from this, drinking water facilities in the villages, extra bus service for the students of extra class falls also request to provide by administration, providing good bus services from Shastri Nagar to Campbell Bay which is also create problem for the student. Providing Dustbin proper disposed garbage in the village, demand for installing street lights Rajiv Nagar  village and a community hall in Rajiv Nagar for performing cultural activities  and regular dance practice by youth, under infrastructure development – youth of vijay nagar are demanding to develop the playground in Vijay Nagar and a small stage there  that  youth can organize sports and cultural programs and  rituals.

Emphasized the issues of employment of local youth in the self-employed sector, in the last few months, there was a discussion on the issue of unemploying 30 employees become unemployed, who have been working as DRM for 9-10 years by recruiting new staff.

Apart from this, the youth here have also suggested that the youth who were studying this convoy were working as teachers. Those youths also became unemployed. While there is also a huge shortage of teachers in schools, in this connection again, all the educated eligible youths can be given a temporary appointment locally and can give children a better education to teach. Apart from this, construction activities, skill development, career guidance and tourism were also discussed at some point.  All the issues were raised  by the various local school student of  class XI and XII and other  local youth Mr.  Mr. Jeet Bhan of vijay nagar, Mr. Joga Rao of Rajiv nagar and Mr. Rahul Singh of Campbell Bay and Reporter of Andaman Sheekha.

In earlier the programme started with welcome of Chief Guest with present bouquet, Mr. Gopal Ch Biswas of NYK, Campbell bay briefing about the programme that Block Level Neighborhood Youth Parliament under the Central Sector Scheme named National Young Leader Programme (NYLP) is to be implemented by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan throughout India. He also highlighted main objective of this programme is to develop leadership qualities among the youth to enable them to realize their full potential to contribute to the nation building process. The programme ended with vote of tanks proposed by Gopal Ch Biswas of NYK.
