Port Blair, July 08 :Women are reeling struggle with exploitation, illiteracy, inequality, unhygiene, harassment etc. Inner wheel organised a programme named ASMITA- the empowerment. Empower and evolve women care and hygiene was the moto of the programme. On 4th of july, 30 motorcycle riders-members of women international social project association (WIMA) partenering with the inner wheel club were flagged of from the venue Huda gymkhana club (Gurugram). A group of 30 women bikers riders flagged off by commissioner of police D. Suresh, distt editor 301 of inner wheel club Mrs. Urvashi Mittal, PIIWP Mrs. Abha Gupta & DC Mrs. PreetiGugnani in presence of all district executives. Motorcycle riders will travel across 5 inner wheel districts in next two days. While riding they will educate and distribute sanitary napkins vending machines. According to national family health survey 62% young women in country using cloth for menstrual protection. The situation is almost similar in Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh where the percentage of young women using cloth during their periods is 81% in each state.
Inner wheel New year starts in July, with installation of new distt chairman with her executive team. Inner wheel district 301 witnessed such installation on 5th July, DC Mrs. PreetiGugnani was installed as district chairman of prestigious Inner wheel distt 301 having large membership no. of 1900 plus, in a grand function called ‘JAZBAA-The passion to serve. Inner wheel association president, 2018-19, Mrs. Smitapingale was chief guest & woman of substance Mrs. SarojaVaidyanathan was special invitee.
DC 2017-2018 Mrs.GitaDhawan presented highlights of the year as ‘GLIMPSES’. Her newsletter & Souvenir by distt editor 2017-18 Mrs. Mala Rishi were released by Association President. Her team was also installed &Distt newsletter/E- Bulletin by District Editor Mrs. Urvashi Mittal, who introduced few new columns, was also released by Association President. Flag march was done by Green torch bearers. ’Token of honour’ was presented to Mrs.GitaDhawan as outgoing chairman to host clubs also.
Success of any programme depends on its completion. With a grand reception to bikers, arriving directly at the venue Hotel Leela, Gurugram, in presence of Association president Mrs. SmitaPingale.
Presence of Bollywood celebrity DiyaMirza not only added glamour but substance also as Miss Diya is UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and bollywood actor. She emphasised the need to reach out to rural areas, work more intensively & shared brand name of companies manufacturing Sanitary pads having no plastic at all that she finds trustworthy.
District Chairman PreetiGugnani worked hard to make an event par excellence. The programme got enriched with presence of all 3 Past International Inner Wheel Presidents, eminent doctors DeepaliBhardwaj&Archana Bajaj & also guests from Distt 308– District Chairman Mrs. Rachna& DVC Mrs. Seema Chopra.
Editor of Inner wheel club District 301Urvashi Mittal said that Inner wheel work for woman from so many years and will continue this same. Bikers distribute the vending machine of making sanitary pads which helps woman in her menstruation cycle because still many women are not aware of sanitary pads.
Event was full of meaningful performances by disciples of PadamBhushan Awardee SarojaVaidyanathan& various other performances sustained everyone’sinterest .
Rich decor, inspiring speeches, power packed performances & DC MrsPreetiGugnani’s untiring efforts, presence of Inner Wheel office bearers & members in large numbers ,all made this event a great success.
