One Day Capacity Building Workshop and Field Visit in Collaboration with Andaman Law College

Port Blair, Nov 04: CPR. Environmental Education Centre Port Blair organized a one day Capacity Building Workshop and field visit in collaboration with Andaman Law College, Port Blair on Island Biodiversity Conservation for law students of the Andaman Law College, Port Blair, funded by the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Government of India, Chennai. The workshop was organized at Andaman Law College Auditorium on 01.11.2018
The main objective of the workshop was to motivate the law students to set an example to their students and involve themselves in biodiversity conservation thereby protecting and safeguarding the pristine ecology of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as they are bound to become lawyers in the Islands itself on completion of their course. It is very vital to enhance the knowledge of these law students in imparting training on Biodiversity Conservation to the young minds.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. P. Naveen Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Department of Environment and
Forest, Andaman and Nicobar Administration. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of A&N islands biodiversity & its conservation and the law students’ key role in environment protection. During the Inaugural session, Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Soundara Pandian, Principal, Andaman Law College, Port Blair, in his address explained the importance of Ecosystem and Dr. Sivaperuman, Officer Incharge, Zoological Survey of India, Port Blair addressed the marine life and its importance. Mr. A.Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair welcomed the dignitaries and the participants of the workshop.

At the end of the technical session, the law students participated in a discussion regarding the biodiversity register.
Continuation of the workshop, a field trip was organized on 02.11.2018. The Andaman Law College students visited Corbyn’s Cove mangrove Patch, Wetland Sippighat, Botanical Survey of India, Nayashehar and Marine Interpretation Centre, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandoor. Mr. Sukumar Das, Instructor, Forest Training Institute, Wimberlygunj and Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Scientist, Botanical Survey of India enlightened the students to conserve the biodiversity in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
