PBMC intensified the drive to impose fines for not maintaining cleanliness

Port Blair, Nov 12: The drive to impose fines for not maintaining cleanliness was intensified on Saturday i.e. 11.11.2017. The Sanitary Inspectors of the Port Blair Municipal Council imposed fine on 95 more persons/firms for littering or failure to keep the area in around their premises clean. The 95 fines imposed on 11.11.2017 were spread in different areas like Haddo, Delanipur, Phoenix Bay, Middle Point, SeaShore road, Mohanpura, BathuBasti, Prothrapur, Austinabad and Garacharma etc. Earlier a day before i.e. 10.11.2017, the PBMC officials led by the Secretary, PBMC imposed fines on 44 persons/firms in the Aberdeen Bazar area.

Mr. Yashpal Garg, Secretary PBMC informed that on 11.11.2017 all the persons/firms paid the fines at the spot while on 10.11.2017, three firms refused to pay the fine and notices have been served to them. Actions have been initiated for prosecution of these three persons/firms and they shall be liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment, or to both such fine and imprisonment or to such other penalty as determined by the Court of Competent jurisdiction.

The Secretary PBMC further informed the drive is not limited for short period and will further spread in residential areas in next few days. He said initially PBMC officials are imposing minimum fine of Rs. 500/- but after about 15 days higher fines from Rs. 1,000/- to Rs. 10,000/- will also be imposed for different type of violations the PBMC Solid Waste (Handling & Management) Bye-laws 2017.
