PDS beneficiaries advised to check the mandatory declarations made on the packages, before purchasing

Port Blair, May 27: On receipt of few complaints from the PDS beneficiaries regarding distribution of sub-standard quality of fortified wheat flour under Public Distribution System, the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs randomly collected the samples of wheat flour from the premises of the selected millers M/s Associated Industries, Dollygunj and M/s Jai Kumar general Store and Flour Mill, Rangat and got it tested from the Govt. approved NABI Accredited Laboratory at Kolkata which revealed that the quality of wheat flour confirms with all the parameters incorporated in various Rules/ Regulations framed under the food safety and Standard Act, 2006. The enforcement team of the Department of CS&CA also conduct regular inspections in all the Fair Price Shops and no instance of distribution of Sub-standard PDS fortified wheat flour were noticed till date.

All the PDS beneficiaries have been advised to check the mandatory declarations made on the packages, before purchasing the fortified wheat flour such as net weight, MRP, date of packing and best before etc. In case of any discrepancies noticed by the PDS beneficiaries viz. less weight, sub-standard quality, over charging, selling after expiry date etc. It may be brought to the notice of the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Port Blair or to the respective Supply units at outstations.
