Public urged to avail 10 % discount for early payment of Property tax for the year 2018-19

Port Blair, July 02: Revised method of Property Tax has been implemented by Port Blair Municipal Council from last year w.e.f 01.04.2017. As per PBMC, this system is better than the earliest system because of being: Transparent, fair, citizen friendly and professional way of assessment; Simple to understand and need not to visit PBMC office; Self-Assessment and ease of payment; Widely implemented system in most of the Municipalities; No discretion with the Assessing Authorities. There is no scope of discrepancy and Good data base information system to enable better tax planning and policy making.
The total property tax, calculated as per Unit Area Rental Value method on covered area of the building. The definition of “Covered area” means total area covered by the building at ground level and each floor level like stilt basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor and so on, which includes balcony staircase garage area and constructed boundary of swimming pool, fuel storage tank constructed underground or above ground and storage in open space like timber etc. The poles meant for communication and other towers and hoarding erected on the surface or above or any other open space of land or building, which does not includes the followings :-
(a) Court yard at the ground level, garden, rocky area, well and well structures, plant, nursery platform around a tree, overhead water tank, fountain, bench with open top and the like;
(b) Drainage, culvert, channel and the like;
(c) Compound or boundary wall, uncovered staircase, watchman booth/pump house not exceeding 3
Till 31.07.2018, special rebate of 10% is also allowed for early payment of Property tax for the year 2018-19. Therefore, all the citizens are requested to avail the rebate of 10%.
