Port Blair, Feb 13: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands organised a remembrance meeting today (13.02.2020) under the chairmanship of Mr. D N Banerjee,Vice President to observe the 5th Death Anniversary of Comrade S.K.Vyas, a legendary leader of Central Govt. Employees and workers. Com.Sri Krishna Vyas was the Secretary General and President of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers for forty years from 1967 to 2006. Com. S K Vyas led various struggles and strike actions of the Central Govt. Employees and was in the forefront of the leadership which organised the historical strike of Central Govt. employees in the year 1967.
Mr. Pronob Banerjee, former President of the Association recalled the struggles by the Central Govt. Employees throughout the country under the leadership of Com. Vyas for the DA and Bonus . Mr. T S Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Association, in his address, explained the prominent role played by Com S K Vyas to achieve a better deal to Central Govt. employees in III, IV and V Central Pay Commissions. Mr. S C Bhowmic, former Finance Secretary of the Association said Com. S K Vyas played a pivotal role in organising pensioners and to protect their interests.
