Rescue works by Police and Fire Brigade during heavy rain

Port Blair, June 04: On 30/5/2018 since morning at 0500 hrs onwards water logging problem was reported from various parts in and around Port Blair due to incessant rain. On receipt of information from different corners, the local police along with PCR, Fire Brigade and Traffic Police swung into action and rescued 22 persons from Old Pahargaon, 13 persons from Mazar Pahar, 13 persons from the backside of Chouldari Bazaar and shifted them to safer places.
Vehicular movement was also affected at Dhani Khari junction due to water logging but due to the relentless efforts the traffic police, normal traffic movement was restored after some time. A number of incidents of land sliding were reported from sea shore road, Dignabad Income Tax Office, South Point etc. but due to the collective efforts by various agencies no loss of life has been reported.
General public are requested to pass on any information regarding water logging or land sliding or any distress to D.C Control Room No.1070, State Control Room- 1077, Police Control Room- 100 or 112 for assistance.
