Seed Day and Technological Application on HYV of Rice at South Andaman Conducted

Port Blair, July 04: A Seed Day on Technological application on promising High Yielding Varieties of Rice was conducted in collaboration with KVK, South Andaman in FLD mode on 30th June, 2018. The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. In his addressed he exhorted the farmers to adopt the varieties of rice developed by the Institute which will increase the yield comparatively and provide livelihood support. He also distributed seeds of High Yielding Rice Varieties to the farmers.
At the outset Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Pr. Scientist welcomed the gathering and spoke about the importance of High Yielding Rice Varieties, the seed chain and the monitoring mechanism which will be conducted jointly with the team of CIARI, KVK, involving Department of Agriculture for furthering the adoption process. Dr. P. K. Singh, Head (I/c) and Pr. Scientist, FCIP Division delivered a comprehensive lecture on cultivation of rice varieties and its management. Dr. R. K. Gautam, Pr. Scientist discussed and interacted with farmers on various agricultural related issues. Around 32 farmers attended and got benefitted by the programme. Dr. L. B. Singh, SMS (Hort). KVK, Sippighat presented the vote of thanks. The progamme was organised under the overall guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
