Sensitization cum glaucoma screening camp conducted at PHC Garacharma

Port Blair, Mar 29: Under National Programme For Control of Blindness (A&N Islands), 2 days sensitization cum glaucoma screening camp has been conducted at PHC Garacharma from 27th to 28th March 2018 by an eye team comprising of Paramedical Ophthalmic Assistant and headed by Dr (Mrs) Anita Shah, DD (Ophth) / JS (NPCB).
A total of 110 eye patients were examined, of which 20 glaucoma patients detected and given treatment. All the glaucoma patients have been educated about the disease through pamphlets / handbills and inter personnel communications. All the 09 Paramedical Ophthalmic Assistants of South Andaman, N&M Andaman and Nicobar District were trained for early diagnosis and management of glaucoma at primary health centre level. All the patients were examined under Slit Lamp and Intra Ocular pressure recorded by using Non Contact Tonometer and retina examined by Direct and Indirect Ophthalmoscope. All the patients are screened by Amsler Grid Chart for visual field. Other than Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataract cases were detected and referred to G.B. Pant Hospital for further investigation and treatment.
