Skill development training on brood-stock management for quality seed production by KVK, Nimbudera

Port Blair, Jan 05: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), N & M Andaman organized a three days training programme on “Brood-stock Management for Quality Seed Production” at Basantipur, from 03/01/18 to 05/01/18. The training was inaugurated by Smt. Sabestian Lakra, Pradhan, Basantipur in presence of PRI members and others. In her inaugural speech she expressed that trainings and practical demonstrations on brood stock management for production of quality seeds will improve skills of fish farmers thereby enhancing farm productivity for better family income. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Course Director briefed about the content of three days training and urged the farmers and participants to adopt scientific method of brood stock management for higher yield and income.
Experts of KVK had explained theory and practical on different aspects of brood stock management and quality seed production such as scope of fish seed production in N&M Andaman, pre-stocking preparation of pond, stocking and post stocking management in culture pond, common herbal based fish toxicants in pond, feed & disease management in freshwater pond, soil and water conservation methods etc. Technical sessions were carried out by experts of KVK viz Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Shri. D. Basantia, Shri B. L. Meena, Dr. Pooja Kapoor and Er. Manoj Kumar. Demonstration on preparation of quality organic manures and fish medicines along with analysis of water quantity parameters were shown to the participants. Videos on brood stock management and methods of fish seed production were also screened during the programme with active assistance of Shri Prasanta Pradhan, Computer programmer, KVK. In his concluding remarks the chief guest of valedictory function Dr. Parag Deori, SVO, Poultry Farm Basantipur appreciated role of KVK in imparting recent innovation and knowledge to farmers and also highlighted the importance of integrated farming system model in the islands.
The training was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 31 farmers and youth were benefitted from the training programme.
