Summer Table Tennis (TT) coaching camp by ANITTA gets underway

Port Blair, May 14: Two month long summer Table Tennis (TT) coaching camp opening ceremony got under way at the YMCA Multi-Purpose Hall, Port Blair today.
The camp has been organised by Andaman Nicobar Islands Table Tennis Association (ANITTA) in association with Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).
In the inaugural ceremony, the President of ANITTA, Er. Sunil K. Sreedharan was the Chief Guest while President, YMCA, Mr. Biju Thomas Jacob was the Guest of Honour. Other prominent guests, who were present there, along with around 40 trainees and their parents, were Ex-President of YMCA, Er. K. A. Jacob, Vice Presidents of ANITTA, Er. Deepak Govind and Mr. I K Khurana, Executive Committee members of ANITTA, Er. Manohar Lal and Mr. Suparn Sunil Sridharan, Members of ANITTA, Er. Johnson Abraham, Mr. Anil Arnold Reddy (Chief Coach), Sameer Roy (Supporting Coach), Ms. Pearly Nicolas & Ms. Pratibha. Secretary, YMCA, Mr. Edward Anandraj was also present.
Er. Johnson Abraham one of the founder members of ANITTA started the ceremony with his Welcome speech. Chief Coach Mr. Anil Arnold Reddy who is a noted state & National TT player too, briefed the gathering about the stage wise training pattern.
He further mentioned about the inclusion of latest equipment, Robot and small size Table Tennis Table (for trainees ( 5 to 10 years) who are not yet tall enough for standard TT Table) which he is going to use during the course of training. He also indicated the possibilities of bringing Mainland Coaches for short duration in future.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Er. Sunil emphasized the importance of sports in these Islands and he assured his full support to nurture the young talents. Guest of Honour Mr. Biju also a TT player & enthusiast said that YMCA is always ready to provide all possible assistance to ANITTA to bring forward young talents.
Er.Sunil and Mr. Biju along with two youngest trainees about 5 years old each played a rally on the TT Table to mark the opening of TT Coaching Camp. Ms. Pearly an old trainee and now a budding doctor and accomplished player explained her experience in how she learnt TT under the able guidance of Mr. Anil to the gathering.
A few parents especially Dr. Suja Johnson was appreciative of the steps taken by ANITTA to nurture raw talent. An interactive session was also had with the parents where many of their doubts and queries were clarified by the members of ANITTA & YMCA. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks by Secretary, YMCA, Mr. Edward.
