Port Blair, Nov 19: Indian Coast Guard conducted a massive beach clean-up drive at various places in A & N Islands including Chidiya Tapu beach at Port Blair , Macchidera beach at Hut Bay and local beaches at Campbell Bay and on 18 Nov 17 towards government of India flagship programme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Various Coast Guard ships and establishments in A&N Islands including Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N), Pollution Response team, RPT, Regional Store Depot Potrt blair , District Headquarters No. 14 , Coast Guard Ship Vishwast, Coast Guard stations Campbell Bay and Hut Bay have been effectively participated in the event to contribute not only towards Prime Minister’s visionary step of clean India campaign but also has taken step towards “Swachh Sagar Abhiyan” through putting efforts towards beach clean ship in these pristine Islands.
The event was conducted by Indian Coast Guard personnel where in approximately 400 – 500 Kgs garbage including discarded plastic items, ropes, nets and clothes etc were collected from all the beaches and handed over to concerned civil administration for disposal. The event was witnessed and applauded by locals and they also extended helping hand towards cleaning the area. During the drive the banner was also displayed to sensitize the locals not to pollute the pristine beaches of the islands. Indian Coast Guard had been instrumental in generating awareness amongst local populace regarding the importance of clean shores. The event was a great success and the beach looked cleaner on completion of the drive.
