The Southernmost Petrol Pump inaugurated


Port Blair, Jan 05: On 4th January, 2018 the history was created when the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr.Anindo Mazumdar, IAS along with Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Awanish Kumar, IAS inaugurated the Southernmost Petrol Pump of the country at Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar Islands.
On the occasion, the Chief Secretary congratulated the residents of the island and appreciated the efforts of ANNIDCO and IOCL along with administration for achieving this feat, which has been a long pending demand of the general public. In his address to the general public, the Chief Secretary stated that the opening of Petrol pump will provide regular and uninterrupted supply of Petrol and Diesel to the residents on price at par with Port Blair. This will facilitate the pace of the development in the Island.
Later, the Chief Secretary also inaugurated the Children’s Park, Campbell Bay constructed by Panchayat Samiti. He also held a public meeting along with all the local heads of offices, PRI members, Tribal leaders and general public. The main issues raised in the meeting was regarding pending development works of the Panchayats, communication issues, medical facilities, education, etc. The Chief Secretary assured to look into the issues for their early resolution.
The Chief Secretary later visited Afra Bay, Great Nicobar Island by Coast Guard Ship, where he paid tribute to the departed souls who lost their lives in Tsunami 2004. He also held a meeting cum interaction with the tribal villagers in the Primary School, Afra Bay. He heard their grievances which were mainly related to the construction of Supply Godown, Community Hall, Playground, Helipad, etc. The Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments for their speedy resolution.
The general public, tribal leaders, and PRI members extended their heart-felt gratitude and satisfaction to the Chief Secretary for visiting the Island and making efforts for resolving their grievances.
