Three awareness programs by CPR Environmental Education Centre

Port Blair, Feb 04: CPR Environmental Education Centre, Chennai in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Andaman and Nicobar Administration organized three awareness programs at Mayabunder on waste management and its related issues for protection of the islands ecosystem. The main objective of the programs was to sensitize the students and general public about the importance of waste handling and segregation at source, so has to it can be disposed in a scientific manner because at present the collection, segregation and disposal is biggest challenge in management of the wastes.
On 29 January 2018, organized an awareness program for college students of Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder at the college premises. Nearly 120 students were participated in this program. Mr. A. Gopal,, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair delivered lecture on waste management through Power point. Dr. Amitabh De, Medical Officer, R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder interacted with the students regarding the effects of indiscriminate waste disposal of human health. On the occasion Dr. J.S. Manhas, Principal,MGGC, Mayabunder was the Chief guest. He appeals the students to keep neat and clean our surroundings.
On 30 January 2018, organized an awareness program for school students of Mayabunder Educational Zone at DEO, Mayabunder conference hall. Six schools were participated in the program. Mr. A. Gopal,, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair delivered lecture on waste management through Power point. Mrs. Reena, Public Health Nurse, R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder interacted with the students regarding the indiscriminate waste disposals effects of human health. Continue of the program, conducted speech and sit and draw competition on the topic of waste management. On the occasion, Shri. Narayan Chandra Roy, DEO, Mayabunder was Chief Guest. He gave away the prizes for the winners of the competition.
On 01.02.2018, organized an awareness program for PRI, Members of Mayabunder Gram Panchayat, SHG Members, shopkeepers and villagers of Mayabunder. Mr. A. Gopal,, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair delivered lecture on waste management through people participation. Dr. Amitabh De, Medical Officer, R. P. Hospital, Mayabunder advised the people to keep the residential area and market area to neat and clean due to adverse effects improper waste disposal on human health . On the occasion Mrs. Jagdiswari, Pradhan,, Mayabunder was the Chief guest. He appeals the public to keep the locality clean and use the dust pin to keep the waste.
