Port Blair, Feb 13: A one day training workshop was organized for Community Disaster Response Volunteer Force (CDRVF) of Gram Panchayats of Ferrargunj and Brindaban under Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) programme today at Community Hall, Ferrarganj. The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration to enhance the capacity of the CDRVF as well as PRIs of Gram Panchayats and officials of Ferrargunj Tehsil.
Shri Sandeep Biswas, Pramukh, Ferrargunj, Tehsil who was the chief guest stressed on community participation in the disaster preparedness to manage disasters as first responder. The guest of honour, Shri Rajendar Pal, Block Development Officer, Ferrargunj and Pradhan, Shri Munishwaran of Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat also spoke about the importance of the programme.
Earlier, in the inaugural session, Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Logistics) (DM), A&N Administration explained the vulnerability profile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and importance of CDRVF at village level to tackle disaster like situation in future at grass root level by the community at their own level and its role in making community safer.
During the technical session, Shri Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer, Directorate of Disaster Management elaborated on emergency communication and early warning system of ANI. He also stressed to prepare the Disaster Management Kit in each household.
Shri Amar Kumar Roy, Fire Officer, Fire Station, Ferrargunj along with his team explained and demonstrated various classes of fire and exhibited different types of fire safety equipments. Shri Pritam Singh, Sub-Inspector, NDRF and team presented different techniques and procedures of rescue operation during disasters including MFR (Medical First Response) and SAR (Search & Rescue).
