Port Blair, Nov 06: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in coordination with Gram Panchayat, Humfrygunj and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organized Disaster Awareness-Cum-Training Programme under Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Programme in the Community Hall, Gram Panchayat, Humfrygunj recently to sensitize various task force group, volunteers and communities.
The main objective of the programme was to integrate community in pre, during and post disaster activities, with focus on creating a Community Disaster Response Volunteer Force (CDRVF) at Gram Panchayat level and preparation of Disaster Management Plans of Gram Panchayats to enhance the capacity of the community as first responder.
On this occasion Mr. Govind Ram, Director, Disaster Management spoke on the disaster preparedness efforts of the Administration and the role of PRIs, Tribal Village Councils and the community who can play the most vital role in strengthening the preparedness levels. He also urged all Gram Panchayats to come forward for creation of CDRVF in their Gram Panchayats which will enable them to respond to the golden hours of any disaster as the first responders.
Smt. Sahay Mary, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Humfrygunj welcomed the gathering. The officers of Directorate of Disaster Management explained the vulnerability profile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands by using animated power point presentation and also explain the importance of CBDRM at Village level to tackle disaster like situation in future at grass root level by the community at their own level.
The NDRF Team presented different techniques and procedure of rescue operation during emergency in disasters including MFR (Medical First Responders) and SAR (Search & Rescue).
