Two days training on “ Cultivation of spices in plantation based cropping system” at Shivpuram, North and Middle Andaman by ICAR-CIARI held


Port Blair, Jan 11: ICAR-CIARI conducted two days training programme on “Cultivation of spices in plantation based cropping system” at Shivpuram, North and Middle Andaman during 8th to 9th January, 2018 in collaboration with Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development (DASD), Kozhikode and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North and Middle Andaman. The training programme was organized by the Course Director, K. Abirami, Scientist, ICAR-CIARI and Course Coordinators Dr. V. Baskaran, Principal Scientist, and Dr. V. Damodaran, ACTO, of CIARI.
The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. B. A. Jerard, Head, Division of Horticulture and Forestry, ICAR-CIARI in the presence of Mr. Dilip Kumar, ADA, Rangat, Mr. Prabakaran, President, Shivpuram Panchayat and Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Programme Coordinator, KVK, North and Middle Andaman as guest of honours. After the inaugural programme lectures were delivered to farmers on scientific cultivation of different spice crops like black pepper, clove, bay leaf, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and nutmeg by scientists and subject matter specialists of KVK, North and Middle Andaman.
A total of 55 farmers participated in the training programme from different villages of Shivpuram Panchayat. The team of scientists from ICAR-CIARI and SMS, KVK, North and Middle Andaman visited the farmers fields where Front Line Demonstrations of ginger and turmeric cultivation was conducted.
The training programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI.
