Underground Power Cables damaged by careless earth digging work by private players

Port Blair, Mar 29: It has been reported by the site engineers of Electricity Department that high tension underground power cables laid alongside the road are getting damage due to excavation / digging of earth. The damage of underground cable is causing serious threat of electrocution while doing such works without taking clearance and also consumers of the concerned area are forced to face prolonged power interruption. Sudden failure of UG power cables are also damaging the DG sets and allied equipments.
In-spite of repeated notices published through the local daily newspapers, All India Radio, Doordarshan and Cable TV’s, the activity of earth digging/excavation in Port Blair and South Andaman areas are continuing unchecked, without notice to Electricity Department.
All such departments, telecom companies, semi-private organizations, private organization and general public are once again informed to obtain prior permission from the Electricity Department before carrying out the digging work or other work close to power line.
It is further to inform that this department shall not held responsibility for any accident occurred in the due course of unauthorized work without obtaining prior permission from the Electricity Department. Cost of the damaged underground cables and loss of revenue due to interruption of power supply shall be levied from the party, a release from Mr B.Ajit Kumar, Executive Engineer(HQ) said here today.
