Vigilance Awareness Week- 2018

Port Blair, Nov 04: As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, 2018, the Anti Corruption Unit under A&N Administration observed the awareness week from 29/10/2018 to 03/11/2018 on the theme “Eradicate Corruption- Build a New India”.
During the week, elocution & debate competitions for school and college students were conducted on 01/11/2018 & 02/11/2018 on the theme “Eradicate Corruption – Build a New India”. Students from different schools and colleges participated in the competitions in which Kumari Sreshta Chary, Class XII of St. Mary’s School, Kumar Omesh Shukla, Class XII of Naval Children School and Miss. Arthi J, Class XI of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. II got First, Second and Third position respectively in the elocution competition. In the debate competition, Ms. Sweety Singh, B.Sc B.Ed (2nd Year) of Tagore Govt. College of Education, Ms. Gracy Tripathy, 2nd Year BA(English) of JNRM and Mr. Nitin, 3rd Year, BA(English) of Andaman College secured first, second & third position respectively.
Besides, during the week, teams of Anti Corruption unit conducted surprise visits in some of the departments and checked / verified the tendering / purchase procedures adopted by them.
The week long programme concluded on 03/11/2018 and the Valedictory Function was held in the Auditorium of Tagore Govt. College of Education, Port Blair in which Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Anti Corruption) was the Chief Guest.
Mr. Deepak Yadav IPS, Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Unit welcomed the Chief Guest and highlighted various programmes held during the week and said that the programmes conducted during the Vigilance Awareness Week will go a long way in spreading awareness against corruption.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IPS, IGP (Anti-Corruption) called upon the Govt. employees to exhibit utmost integrity in discharge of their official duties. He also emphasized upon the need to have more transparency in the official procedures, so that the corruption could be checked at the initial stage. During his speech he talked about the importance of technology as a tool in combating corruption. He called upon the students & the youths, who’re the future of the nation, to join hands with the Anti Corruption Unit in the fight against corruption.
The Chief Guest also felicitated all the winners of the competitions with certificates along with cash rewards. The function ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. M.K. Shukla, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Unit.
