Port Blair, Nov 03: An Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi sponsored 21 day Winter School on ‘Developments in Organic farming in Tropical Islands of India’ is organized from 7-27th November, 2017 at ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Shri. Anindo Majumdar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration will be the Chief Guest and inaugurate the programme at 11.30 AM on 07-11-2017 at Dr. N. T. Singh Conference hall of CIARI. Dr. A. Kundu, Director (Acting) of CIARI will preside over the function. Heads of the Development Department, A & N Administration will be participating in the inauguration programme.
The winter school, is first of its kind which is organized by Dr. B, Gangaiah, & Head, Division of Natural Resource Management (NRM) as Course Director and Dr. K. Abirami, Scientist, Horticulture & Forestry and Dr. S. Swain, Scientist, NRM divisions as course coordinators under the overall supervision and guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director (Acting), CIARI, Port Blair.
Twenty five trainees in the rank of Assistant Professor / Scientist / Subject Matter Specialists from State Agricultural University / ICAR Institute from mainland representing Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and A & N Islands are participating.
During the training programme, trainees will be imparted with the latest developments in organic farming by experts from CIARI and also from mainland. Field visits to organic farmers and farms are also being made by the trainees.
