Women’s Day by NGGOA

Port Blair, Mar 09: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands observed the International Women’s Day yesterday at 6.00p.m. at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay, Port Blair. The programme was inaugurated by Smti. Kadiammo, Assistant Director (Admn), Directorate of Health service. The theme on the occasion was “Working women in A&N islands: Challenges and solutions”. In her inaugural address, Smti. Kadiammo exhorted women employees to have larger unity to sort out the challenges they are facing in their work places. Smti. Nirmala, Secretary All India Postal Employees Union (P III) in her address explained the situation in Postal Department with regard to working condition of women employees and mechanism to solve the issues. Women government employees working at Port Blair/South Andaman areas participated in the programme, in large number, which was presided over by Smti. Usha Sharma. In her key note address Smti. Rehana Bibi, Retd Headmistress and Social worker recalled the struggles of various women groups for the upliftment of working women in these Islands. Smti. Geeta Naveen Bhatt,GTT discussed in detail about various problems faced by women employees in offices and schools and appealed NGOs’ Association for initiatives to resolve the issues.
Smti. Nazreen Begam,leader of Women’s Sub-Committee of NGOs’ Assocaiation, underlined the need of awareness among the women about their rights. She also pointed out that the mandatory internal complaint committees are not formed or not active in many of the institutions. Shri. D Ayyapan, General Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Gazetted Officers’ Association enlightened the participants about various legal aspects useful to women employees in their service life. Smti. Suma Nair, Smti. Viji Clement, Smti. T Khatija, Smti. M Elizabeth, Smti. Shabana Bibi, Smti.Reba Rani Sarkar and Ms.Priya Yadav also spoke on the occasion. The meeting honoured Smti. Kadiammo and Smti. Rehana Bibi for their contributions to the women community.
Shri T.S. Sreekumar, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association explained the theme of this year for International Women’s Day and said that the issues raised by the participants will be pursued by the Association to ensure a better working condition for women. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Shri. SN Mishra, President Incharge of the Association.
