On Dec 22, 2016, the police team headed by SI Abdul Rehman, SHO, PS Chatham along with Food Safety Officers, CISF personnel & PMB staff conducted checking at Haddo Wharf on arrival of MV Nicobar ship from Kolkata. During checking, 92 tins of zarda, 544 pouches and 01 Bundle Tobacco leaf was recovered from the possession of canteen crew of the ship namely Subramaniam R/o Dignabad & Jay Ram R/o Jharkand and from two passengers namely Kamesh R/o Junglighat & Suman Bara R/o 24 Paragan, West Bengal during further checking at Passenger Hall. Apart from the above recovered articles, 24 tin Zarda, 511 Poaches Tobacco & 1 Bundle Tobacco leaf were found from the sea as unclaimed. All the recovered articles have been handed over to Food Safety Officers for further needful action. The general public have been requested to pass on information of any illegal activity noticed in the area in South Andaman District to nos. 100-233077, 232405, 2322232.
